John Bishop


Sigung John Bishop has been in law enforcement since 1972, working as a Police Cadet, Police Officer, Police Detective, and District Attorney's Investigator. He holds a A.A. degree from Cerritos College, and a B.A. degree from the University of Redlands.

He started training in Judo at the age of 5 and has since trained in Koga Jutsu, and Shotokan Karate, before specializing in Kajukenbo. He has trained under Sensei Jack Bishop, Sensei Robert Koga, Shihan Ray Dalke, Grand Master Joe Rosas, and since 1991 has been a personal student of Associate Professor (8th degree)Gary Forbach.

In Kajukenbo he received the rank of 6th degree red/white belt in 1998 from Kajukenbo founder, Adriano D. Emperado, and is registered with the Kajukenbo Self Defense Institute of Hawaii, Inc.

On July 7, 2002, John was promoted to 7th degree Red/Black Belt by Professor Forbach.

In addition to his martial arts training he has completed several hundred hours of police firearms, self defense and s.w.a.t. training. He is a karate instructor for the City of Diamond Bar, Calif., and has taught karate for the Upland Recreation Department, the Chino Recreation Department, and the Chino Valley Y.M.C.A.

Since 1989 he has appeared in, and or written over 65 articles for "Inside Kung Fu", "Inside Karate", "Black Belt", "Inside Karate's Master Series", "Inside Kung Fu Presents", "Martial Arts Professional", "Kick" (Germany), and "Centuron Negro" (Spain) magazines. He has also appeared on the cover of the July 1995 issue of "Inside Kung Fu Present's".

In 1996 Sigung Bishop was inducted into "The World Martial Arts Hall of Fame" as the "Best International Journalist/Editor".
